Blueberrystar could barely breathe with constant water washing in her mouth and nose. She sniffed the air, then coughed. Bee figured it’d be best to look down. She needed to look for Bug, her mate. The wiry brown tom wasn’t in sight- yet. The damp rain had washed out all trace of her wonderful, truly wonderful, mate. There was no way Bee was going to give up now! Bluebur felt the noises disappear, time slowed down. She felt her paws skitter on a bare spot, with no grass the twolegs had made, then, she was scratched by a branch. None of it mattered, she had saw Bug, her mate, slowly trailing ahead. She took one pawstep, then another quicker, then she repeated. She stretched out, her hind legs and paws flailing as her front paws led the way. She hardly stopped at all to catch her breath, she couldn’t stop, no, not as hard as she tried. She couldn’t stop her paws from dashing after the cat she loved. No, never. Not until she had caught him. What was her mate up to this time? She sighed, he wasn’t a perfect mate, but no cat was perfect. She continued on her quick dash, Bug was passing the thunderpath! “Bug! Wait- no! Bug!!” She wailed out desperately. Her call was ignored, she let a tear trickle from her eye down her cheek, which dropped onto the wet ground. “B-Bug!” She cried. “Bug!” She yowled, the only answer was a turn of his head, to gaze at his mate, one last time, before passing the thunderpath. “Bug!” She half wailed half yowled. He was gone now, never to be seen by her again. She knew that he had abandoned her. Her belly fidgeted, she gasped with horror. Could it be? She was going to have kits, right after the father had abandoned them. [CONT]
