hi chat! a while ago I asked skipper if I could make a project ranting about why morpho is one of the most well-written characters in gens! so here we go! everything will be split into sections for easier reading and stuff.. as a note I joined gens around the time morpho was an apprentice! and I didn't role-play with morpho till he was a loner! so just know all this info is based off of threads I've seen people do with him. Fair warning: the following contains mentions of b100d and mvrd3r. if you're not okay with that, click off! ty <3 0. introduction 1. why smile? 2. why mvrd3r? 3. how does morpho treat his family? 4. how the mini-morphos came to be 5. master manipulation 6. legacy 7. conclusion 0. introduction For those of you who don't know who Morphosmile is, I'll give you a basic rundown. @SkippertheSilkwing (Morpho's role-player, go follow him he's awesome) based Morpho's character off of a character named Kevin (I believe) from a podcast named Welcome to Nightvale (correct me if I'm wrong). The base of Morpho's character is that he smiles 24/7. Even when he's angry, he's still smiling. He also likes b100d and mvrd3r. His unique character made a lot of people want to rp with him since when he was a kit. But there's so many more layers to Morpho's character than just smiling and mvrd3r. So! We're going to cover that today. 1. Why smile? "You can see happiness! That's why I smile!! That's why I'm smiling at you right now!!" - Morphopaw Why smile? The quote above pretty much explains it. Morphosmile wants everybody to be happy. "...I should hope they talked about how i just want smiles everywhere! Happiness!" - Morphosmile, possessing Pearlshine He thinks they should show their happiness by smiling. Because "you can see happiness!" "See, being happy is the important thing, not being alive." Even when he talks about how he k1ll3d people, he states that he "made sure they were smiling before they d13d!" Morpho really just wants everybody to be happy. And to his belief, to be happy, you have to show that you're happy- hence the smiles. This is one reason why Morphosmile is so well written. you have his mvrd3r0us, b100dy side. and then you have him smiling. that just makes it creepier (and cooler). 2. why mvrd3r? "I was just giving all their families practice being happy! They should thank me- but I'm not expecting it." In my thread with Morphosmile, Melody gets upset at him for k1ll1ng cats. "-those cats had families, siblings, maybe kits, a mate.." Morpho simply states that he's making those cats' families "practice being happy!" "Like this one kit, Shroomkit- I killed their parent, and when i talked to them afterwards they smiled so wide and happy." This comment just proves it. Morpho k1lls to make other people happy. ... and himself. 'He was done with sad cats. Done with cats. He just wanted muder now.' This line comes from a role-play when Morpho was an apprentice and his girlfriend Shinepaw (now his mate Shineslumber) got upset at him. He runs away, trying to smile wider and wider. Stating that 'he just wanted muder now' suggests that mvrd3r is an escape for him, not just smiling. when he's upset, he wants to k1ll because it makes him feel better. he'll still smile if he's upset. he just needs something else to make him feel really better (again, note this is all based on assumption). 3. how does morpho treat his family? Morphosmile has a very, very large family true. He is part of a polycule made up of Shineslumber, Voleshark, Aranight, and himself. Morphosmile has had many kits- Livepaw, Laughter, Lovebug, Vengeancerose (litter one), Tiger, Deathberry(paw?), Sunshinekit, Oceanstar, Wishpaw, Shark (litter two), and finally Smilepaw, Hermit(ear?), Valerian(paw?), Butterfly(ear?), and finally Sleepy(ear?) (third litter with shineslumber). To make it more confusing, Morpho also has grandkids. I won't go into detail on those, mainly because I don't know who they all are and I don't wanna take up more space. But you get the gist, Morphosmile has lots of family. But how does he treat them? Morphosmile will never get upset at his family members. Even if they don't smile. "Yes, they’re having a little phase right now." - Morphosmile, when told about Smilepaw not liking him and his smiley-mvrd3r3ry concept Morpho easily manipulates his family (more on that later) but let's dive a little bit deeper. Morphosmile isn't the best dad. But he's not a bad one. He cares about his kits and mates, he really does. “Oh, sweetie, Oceanstar, i’m so happy to be at your ceremony. I’ve watched you as you never gave up.... Sweetie, i want you to know that you’re loved.... Know that me and Shiny and Voley love you and your siblings and your kits and your friends love you.... “I’ll always love you, Oceanstar.” He's proud of his kits. He cares about them deeply. The quote above was segments from Oceanstar's leader ceremony, where Morphosmile gave gem a life. (+)
( cont. from above) These quotes prove that even if his kits don't like smiling or mvrd3r, he'll still love them. always and forever. the next point isn't much of a shock, but morphosmile has a very specific boundary where he will not hvrt a member of his family. In a roleplay I was stalking, one character roleplaying one of Morpho's kit gave Skipper scar perms, but Cecil stated that Morpho has a boundary to not hvrt his family. He'll hvrt anyone and everybody else, but not his own family. He'll even go out of his way to make sure his family isn't hvrt. "Don't hurt Smile. Don't make them sad." - Morphosmile, talking about Smilepaw to eir enbyfriend (at the time), Melody. When Morpho was an apprentice, he got in a disagreement with Shineslumber (mentioned above).
