Hello everyone! Before we begin, this week’s activity is all about learning more about botanists and how awesome their work with plants really is! :D This week’s theme is Botanists! Botanists are scientists who study plants, from tiny mosses to giant trees. They help us understand how plants grow, how they survive in different environments, and how they can be used to help people. Thanks to botanists, we know so much more about the natural world and how to take care of it. For this week’s activity, you’ll be researching any botanist of your choice (they can be from history or someone working today!) and learning about what they’ve done. You’ll need to find and include 3 interesting facts about botanists or your chosen botanist. Then, research 2 discoveries that botanists have made, this could be a new plant species, a helpful medicine, or something really cool they learned about plants! Lastly, you’ll be making a drawing of one of the discoveries and adding it to your Scratch project. You can draw it directly in Scratch or upload your own drawing. Be creative and have fun with it! :) - You must remix this project with your facts, discoveries, and drawing included so I can keep track of everyone’s work. All club members and the co-captain need to complete the activity. @-GreenWonder- has posted an example remix which is https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1157802712/ - If you’re not sure how to draw in Scratch, there are tutorials you can check out, or feel free to ask me for help! - You can use plant images from Google if needed, but I’d love it if you tried drawing your own version—even if it’s simple. The more effort you put in, the better your chance of winning The Award of the Week! :D Please don’t copy or steal anyone else’s art or project. Let’s all be kind and respectful to each other’s work <33
Some botanists you can choose for this activity include: Agnes Arber (info here: https://kids.kiddle.co/Agnes_Arber <3) Jane Colden (info here: https://kids.kiddle.co/Jane_Colden :3) Those are just a few of the botanists you could choose! There are loads more you can also research <3 Here are some trustworthy websites you can use to find out facts and discoveries: https://www.twinkl.com/ https://www.natgeokids.com/ https://www.kiddle.co/ Those are the main ones that I usually use, but there are tons of others too! (Please note that https://www.kiddle.co/ is a lot like Google but totally kid friendly!) You can definitely also use Google, but the most accurate info will probably be from the websites I linked above. All code by @Natures-Neighbours + @marii-gold Idea from @-GreenWonder- Thanks so much for looking at this! Have an awesome day! <33
