┊ ﹋﹋﹋「 ✰ 」﹋﹋﹋ ┊ ✰﹋「 Intro 」 Welcome to the start of yet another session of SDC, one that we’re more than excited to share with all of you. If you’re looking to (co)lead a cabin this time around, you’re in the right place! If you are planning to apply, please make sure to read through the entirety of this description, no matter if you’ve led a cabin before. It’s showtime~ (Click the screen or use arrow keys to advance! ^^) ┊ ﹋﹋﹋「 ✰ 」﹋﹋﹋ ┊ ✰﹋「 FAQ 」 “So… what is SDC?” Scratch Design Camp, or simply SDC, is a biannual virtual camp which runs in February and August, right here on Scratch! This camp was created as a place for like-minded individuals to engage in a month filled with fun activities, friendly competition, and also serves as a platform for learning and continuous improvement <3 ┈┈ “What are the responsibilities of a (co)leader?” Leaders and co-leaders should: ◦ Maintain a healthy balance between camp and real life, as well as encouraging campers to do the same ◦ Contribute to the planning and development of your cabin ◦ Oversee the cabin and address any questions that campers may have. If you are unsure of your answer, direct the question to the host(s). ◦ Update cabin minute counts every so often, and be responsible for totalling up counts at the end of the session ┈┈ “How do I apply?” Simply remix this project with your answers! Most apps do incorporate a theme featuring redesigned slides, but this is by no means compulsory. Text-based apps are completely acceptable, but do keep in mind that this is a design camp and so apps are also judged on the creativity factor ^^ Don’t worry about it having to be perfect and polished though, this extra touch is mainly to showcase your personality! ┈┈ “What are the cabins?” These are solely based off app interest, and will only be finalized when leaders are chosen ^^ (The final list will all fall under one category, so we'd recommend puting down a variation of preferences!) Possible cabin themes (+ examples): ◦ Stage areas (Backstage, Dressing rooms, etc.) ◦ Amusement park locations/rides (Carousel, Ferris Wheel, Refreshment Stand, Roller Coaster, etc.) ◦ Types of potatoes (Russet potato, Salad potato, Melody potato, Sweet potato, etc.) ◦ Potato recipes (Baked/Jacket potato, Mashed potato, Smashed potato, ̶B̶u̶r̶n̶t̶ ̶p̶o̶t̶a̶t̶o̶, etc.) Remember that you are in no way confined to this list, you are free to list anything else that fits within the categories in any way! ┈┈ “I've never led in a previous camp before, nor had any leading experience outside of Scratch. Would that affect my chances of getting selected?” Like most other camps, leaders will be selected based off answer quality and honesty, as well as creativity in your apps. However, having more prior leading experience does not put you at a significantly higher spot when applying- especially in smaller camps, we always like to offer opportunities to those who haven’t had a chance somewhere else. ┈┈ “Can I apply if I’ve never participated in SDC at all?” Of course! Anyone and everyone is welcome to apply, though we do suggest having a bit of experience in SDC or other Scratch camps, just to better prepare you for what to expect <3 ┈┈ “Do we have co-leaders?” Yes! This session we’re planning for each cabin to have one leader and one co, selected by the leader, although this is subject to change depending on the number of applications. You can choose to make your application for co-leader only, but please specify so in the project title or description! ┊ ﹋﹋﹋「 ✰ 」﹋﹋﹋ ┊
┊ ﹋﹋﹋「 ✰ 」﹋﹋﹋ ┊ ✰﹋「 FAQ (cont.) 」 “Are collaborative applications allowed?” As a general rule, you are not allowed to team up with anyone to create your application, so no ^^;; However, using a small part of others' work is completely fine as long as it is credited properly and that majority of what you're sharing is the work of your own ideas. ┈┈ “When is my application due? Are there extensions for if I can’t submit it on time?” All applications must be submitted before June 18, 2025, midnight UTC to count! Extensions can be granted on an individual basis, but only for a maximum of 24 hours with a valid reason (eg. technical issues, unexpected plans that you have not been notified earlier of). This will also make you ineligible for a leader position, meaning your application will only be for co-leader. Please note that extension requests have to be sent in the comments *before* the deadline, anything afterwards will *not* be considered! ┈┈ “What if I don’t want to lead a cabin but still want to participate in SDC?” No worries! Camper signups will be shared on @freeIy’s profile on July 1st, leave a comment on her profile if you'd like to be pinged for their release! ┈┈ “When will leaders be chosen?” Leaders will be announced shortly (anywhere within 1-3 days) after the original deadline!
