I played around with the Taylor series for ln(x) at a = 1 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_series#Examples ) and found two series (infinite sums of terms) for ln(2)! I discovered the second series with the logarithm property ln(a/b) = ln(a) - ln(b), where I specifically used ln(1/2) = ln(1) - ln(2) = -ln(2) because ln(1) is just zero. By plugging x = 1/2 into the Taylor series mentioned above, I found another (much faster) way to calculate ln(2), which became my favorite approximation.
