MV Le Joola was a Senegalese ferry built in 1990. In 2002, the overloaded ferry capsized and sank, killing 1,863, despite only being meant to carry 536 passengers. There were 64 survivors. The disaster is the deadliest maritime disaster of the 21st century and the second-worst peacetime maritime disaster of all time.
