The LRN Orochi was manufactured from December 4th, 1938, to August 10th, 1940. It set sail on September 7th, 1940, under the command of Vice Admiral Kura Hakene. During Operation Watchtower at the Battle of Guadalcanal, it first saw battle. It fought the USS Grayson and finally sank it, sustaining critical damage. Then, firing torpedoes at the USS North Carolina caused severe flooding and holes in the citadel. The ship then ran away from the battle to get repairs. During the New Georgia Campaign, the LRN Orochi sank multiple LST and LCI transport ships. It fought with the USS Nashville and sank it because an armor-piercing shell hit the ammunition. Before getting hit by the USS Honolulu in the rudder causing movement to malfunction and succumbed to a salvo of shells on the torpedoes shattering the ship in half and meeting its end. Everybody stayed on the ship including the Admiral and at 1243 hours on September 13th LRN Kijo saw the the LRN Orochi sink. The wreck is at Lattitude -7.7587471, and Longitude 156.9228939.
