Part 1 -------- One girl Asian Top of her school She had the Best grades Perfect scores She always came home With an A+ On her paper Or full marks On her computer screen People envied her Thought she had The perfect life They thought she got Ice cream every time She scored well Which was every time The most grand Mansions as a house The most motivational Parents a girl could ask for Except.... Her life was different Than what the students Had pictured She went to school Her head held low Trying to be Invisible Or else The bullies Would catch up to her Calling her names "Dirty-skinned" "Borderhopper," "Know-it-all," "LANGALANGALANGALANGA!!" She aced the tests But tried not to exist Hoping no one Could notice her Not a single person Was her friend They thought she was too "Nerdy" to be nice to them She ate lunch In the bathrooms Everyday Then she got home And did the extra math And then she faced Her parents And gave them a paper With a clear "A+" on the page They told her she needed To be better To be stronger To be smarter So she wouldn't end up A failure And that was her life It played on repeat How could she deal With the pressure And the bullies Her teachers praised her But that came in Through her ear And shot outwards Through her other one And she's imperfect Perfectly Not everyone can live Perfection But she tries
Part 2 -------- A girl American With freckles And brown hair She sounds perfect To the outcasts Of kids She has "American parents" Doesn't get insulted But the rhythm she plays Is different Than the one That beats in her heart The one she wants So badly She gets C's and D's And barely passes Almost got held back Twice And she tries To make up for it To make her mother Proud of her Yet her father Passed away And after that Her mother's job Was taken away And everything Seemed to fly away She tried to tell herself "It's in my head, it's in my head" But it was all too real For her hope that it was a dream She doodled On her schoolwork Instead of actually solving The math problems She struggled Academically And her mother Couldn't help her either Despite the girl's gentle plea Her mother had to take on Shifts at any time of day Morning, evening, nighttime She was always away The girl Got used to Living alone Since her mother Was barely present In her household At school She was alone No one was her friend And when she was nervous She didn't have a hand To hold For lunch She sat at a table With anyone Who could spare A seat Or she went To the classrooms After losing Her appetite She tries to study But always fails Never understands The material She barely passes Or gets through life And she struggles Very, very much Not everyone can live A normal life But she tries
