I won't spoil too much, but basically these are 'ghosts' whose souls were taken by a spirit named Soul Eater, who trades souls for a wish, and the animal, usually a cat, who makes the deal is transformed into a certain type of ghost. I feel so bad for them and I think this song fits them really well because they have given everything they have and still are expected to do Soul Eater's bidding and be stuck in forms that usually appear terrifying. They are sometimes forced to kill living animals, and all have very traumatizing pasts from their lives.
