His one wish was to have a golden touch. This wish quickly turned into a curse. When Midas tried to eat the food would turn to gold. The king began to cry. The king’s daughter came to comfort him with a hug and was turned to solid gold. Out of pity for the king, Dionysus told Midas to wash his hands in the river of Pactolus.
