At about 7 a.m. UTC on March 14th, 2025, the moon became fully eclipsed in the Earth's shadow. The moon appears red in eclipses because the only light that reaches its surface is light that has been refracted in the Earth's atmosphere. Lunar eclipses are sometimes called "Blood Moons" due to the deep red-orange color. Happy Pi Day, everyone! Music and Pi icon from the Beautiful Complexity event in Cell to Singularity.
