Kickball Championship -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two teams left Out of around twenty-four One yellow One green Yet only one Can take home The trophy They've come so far Dominating the other teams Jumping in joy When they win And calling a good game When they've lost While hiding the sorrow From their fellow teammates The memories made The emotions in play The feeling When everything comes together Just right And everyone Even the teachers Even the higher grade levels Even the parents Even the siblings And even the teams Who lost to the them All come and cheer For the championship The choir sings The national anthem Their melodies giving the onlookers A sense of peace And pride for their country The singing comes to an end And the drum line begins Building a crowd Of anticipation For the championship game And then... An umpire finally calls, "Play ball." Signaling the game's begin Kids from the green team Kick and run While the yellow team Catches the kickball and defends And they switch The cheers from the crowd Awaken the kickball spirit The green team seems On a smooth trail to success While they yellow side Is being humbled By the opposing side's Impressive play The game goes on Kicking and defending Switching and calling outs Everyone watches eagerly The time is running out But the yellow team Overtakes the green side With fierce and strategic play Dominating them in every way possible The green team is stressing Weakening with every move Children with yellow shirts Run across the home plate Numerous times It intrigues the crowd As their full attention Is appointed to the game Ten seconds on the clock A child from third base Begins to sprint To home base Seven seconds The green team Fumbles with the ball On outfield Five seconds "Run, quickly!" The yellow team shouts Three seconds The crowd becomes unruly Screaming and shouting One second The child's foot Just barely Touches home base And the umpires discuss it As the timer of the game Goes off And they announce The point counts The scorekeepers have flipped The yellow team's score The current scoreboard showing: Yellow Team: 5 Green Team: 4 The crowd erupts in chaos Happiness, excitement, sadness, anger, envy All in one place After the two teams have said "Good game, everyone!" The former winning class Parades up to the winning team The yellow team And hands over the trophy As the teacher holds it up high Allowing the spectators To go wild once again The yellow team screams "We did it!" "We got first place!" "I can't believe we made it!" "YAY!!" The green team However Isn't so happy Though everyone reminds them That they receive second place And they smile a little Knowing that they'd come this far And ultimately Still had bragging rights And at the end of the day It was all a good game That was enjoyed By everyone And was worth watching Filled with Togetherness Anticipation Excitement Surprises Nervousness Rejoice Delight Relief Memories And fun Leaving everyone exhausted Until next year Where the championship game Would happen again --------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you had the patience to read the entire poem, thank you so much. This was based off of a kickball championship game at school that I got to witness, which was a great opportunity. It also gave me something to write about, and I thought it would be interesting to put in a poem. I did butcher it a little bit, to make it more interesting; nevertheless, it was definitely an experience. Thank you again for reading this! I hope you enjoyed!!
