I know it's a little late, but I finally watched Sonic 3, and my goodness, it was awesome. Here is my detailed review of the movie. ------------------ PLOT ------------------ The movie follows the plotline of Sonic Adventure 2, with the final fight being a call back to the Biolizard boss, just without the Biolizard. The movie has a strong message of "making good choices", no matter how hard that may seem. Shadow could have chosen not pto pursuerevenge, but he was twisted by Maria's words. Sonic learns this message in the movie by working better with his team. This is played out well in my eyes, and it was a ball seeing my myfavoritee characters on the big screen. Robotnik also learned to value Agent Stone's assistance; their friendship was also a nice touch to go with the movie. ------------------ CHARACTERIZATION ------------------ The movie characterisations of the cast haven't changed from its predecessors. Sonic is still his childish self. Tails is there for emotional support (& being adorable). Knuckles has the best line in the movie and stays noble to his vows. Eggman is being as funny as usual. And Shadow was fleshed out well in this movie. I saw videos online before watching the movie that Sonic 3's interpretation of Gerald is too goofy for this movie, especially since it takes SA2's storyline. I think Gerald was a little goofy for the movie, but he locked in to doing what he wanted. To destroy earth. ------------------ VISUALS ------------------ Visually, the movie looks great and is a step up from the previous movies with a higher budget in animation. The fights between Sonic and Shadow were the best parts of the movie,, hands down. And the Super Sonic and Super Shadoteam-upup was absolute fire cinema. ------------------ REFERENCES ------------------ The movie is scattered with Easter Eggs & References from past Sonic games for hardcore Sonic fans to find. I won't list them here for obvious reasons,, but be sure to rewatch if you are hunting for them. ------------------ MUSIC ------------------ Fans have been controversial with the music composed by Junkie XL, but I think that this movie show that he has great experience, especially this movie rendition of Live and Learn. ------------------ (CRITICS) REVIEWS ------------------ The movie has received high praise on IMDb Rotten Tomatoes, but the Metacritic scores were middling. Some people said the writing wasn't the best, and to some extent, I have to agree. The pacing felt a little quick considering the movie is 1 hour and 53 minutes. Though some reviews fairly criticised the movie, by far the worst I've seen was from Kevin Meher, who gave the movie a 0 on Metacritic. Kevin quotes, "Even by the depressing standards set by the Mortal Kombat movies, Uncharted and the first two miserable Sonic the Hedgehog outings, this third Sonic is staggeringly poor." All I have to say to that is "Don't be bothered. Watch Sonic 4 cause if you review that, Sonic fans will clown you like we did with Matt Wal.sh." I also want to note the fact that he gives a 100 to mid movies such as We Live in Time on Metacritic, so either he doesn't care about what he watches, or he dumps a bad review to make the movie look bad. It's ok to say you don't like this movi,we aren't begging the world to watch it, but at least give us valid points on why you don't like it. ------------------ THE NEAR FUTURE ------------------ The Sonic Movies are improving as they go along, and they for sure aren't slowing down. Two special characters are coming into this universe. Although I won't spoil anything, I'll give you a hint: "I am a rose without thorns with a sweet passion, I am lethal and the Doctor's finest creation". ------------------ FINAL THOUGHTS ------------------ I think Sonic 3 is a 9/10 for me. It may not be perfect, but it's the best Sonic movie we have so far. If you still haven't seen the movie, go to the nearest available theatre or stream it on Paramount +. It will be worth your time. Thank you to SEGA and Paramount for delivering patak aa t our fingertips, and thank you to all the fans who supported the franchise and kept it alive. Sonic 3 may not have beaten Mufasa, but it was and is a spectacle we will never forget. Thank you : )
