"If this works, it could permanently change the DSR as we know it..." To save money and make these new electric locomotives more natural-disaster-proof, the DSR will be running electricity through the tracks instead of installing new electric power lines. Most steam locomotives will be converted. There will be a D10 unit supposed to break the world record of 126 mph. It's planned to go at 200 mph when it's finished. There's also some locomotives around the DSR that are probably too small for the conversion. We're not sure what to do with them yet, and scrapping them is going to be a last resort if we can't figure anything out.
Theo This is more a "well, it looks science-y enough to be true!" thing, so don't expect to understand everything you see in the diagram. I could barely understand it myself. I highly suggest watching "The Fascinating Engineering behind Electric Trains!" by Sabin Civil Engineering on YT if you want to learn more. Credit to him.
