If you manage to de-escalate it is a loss for the attacker. If you don't de-escalate both sides gain a casus belli against the other. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ANNEX LAND UNLESS YOU ARE THE ATTACKER AND KEEP YOUR CLAIMED LAND FOR MORE THEN 72 HOURS. (if you are invading with land forces) If you are not then either way both sides will pay each other based on damage caused
