. r e g a l i t y click, space bar, or arrow keys to proceed so. surprisingly enough, i've done this redraw 4 consecutive years without realizing it?? i might as well make it a habit to see my improvement, as i barely have time for art these days. and, since i have a lot of screenshots, i thought i could show my art process since it's changed a lot over the years. hope you enjoy! 1, 2, 3 - final art ミ☆ still not entirely satisfied with the lighting situation, but it'll have to do :) i'm really proud of this, although it took wayy too long to do and how i kept changing everything about it didn't really help haha. but i have definitely improved from the past years, and i'm happy about that :) 4 - original drawing (2022) ミ☆ omg i remember drawing this but the whole composition is so random--i think this was on adobe fresco?? maybe?? you can really see the lack of confidence in my lines and how i hid the hand + leg- 5 - first redraw (2023) ミ☆ yeahh i remember being really proud of this? i guess the hands are alright, but the overall painting style isn't really *that* different from the first. i remember this was one of the first times i tried overpainting omg :') 6 - third redraw (2023?) ミ☆ actually don't remember doing this and how it ended up in my camera roll, but i do think it's pretty cute! also i think i painted over the previous one, which is why it looks almost the same?? 7 - fourth redraw (2024) ミ☆ this is so funny because i don't think i ever posted this and this whole time i thought that i'd posted it, so...it's here haha. kaito is finally gone adter this one, since it's not that rational for him to be her "pet" haha…omg i feel like i keep talking down my old art in this project lol- ok, now onto the actual art process of this project !! 8 - initial sketch ミ☆ i think i made this a few months ago, drawing over one of the other redraws, which was my first mistake :"0 i left this drawing here for a while and i just deleted this sketch layer tbh. because it just was taking super long to fix up the way i wanted it (which is maybe why the canvas says i took 9 hours on the full drawing...) when i usually do a redraw, i look at my old art but don't *fully* reference it bc of the problems i stated before. even though it's technically better to start from a finished piece so you can theoretically get done "faster", i'm always changing up stuff and looking at the tiniest details, so it really doesn't work for me :,0 9 - new sketch! ミ☆ so this is the rough sketch i actually started out with, really just drew out the anatomy + made it look 3d and attempted some foreshortening on the hand. trust me, this took several tries - i looked up a bunch of references just because this whole drawing is just really challenging, even with my current knowledge. which also just doomed my past self w/ the anatomy and hands and just like...everything haha- 10 - cleaned up sketch ミ☆ after the rough sketch, i usually go over the sketch with a soft eraser to get rid of the construction lines i don't need. then, i line out the face and other details, making sure it aligns with what i drew before, & start blocking out the colors! (pfft why did i go to full art process mode-) 11 - color blocking + starting rendering ミ☆ after sketching, i make another layer under my sketch + block in basic colors, and then i go over my sketch and just clean it up w/ the colors. here, i've went over some messy linework & replaced it with colors, & once i feel like it's clean enough, i can start rendering! 12 - rendering part 1 ミ☆ here, i've finished the clothes rendering & started detailing the skin + hair. i usually go in with darker colors, a midtone, then the light to i can fully define *everything* here. as for the color choices, i shaded the green with some dark blue to spice it up a little (and act like i know color theory) bc it was looking a bit flat. the general rule is to move the hue slightly so the shadows look good + realistic! you can look at real-life examples to see color variation in shadows as well :) 13 - rendering part 2 ミ☆ so, here, i've finished rendering the skin. for skin, i usually make the first shading color somewhat pinkish and block out where the shadows should be, then go in with a darker reddish color. after that, i add some purple above it on low opacity (under the neck, leg, & cheekbone) and just add some-
-random blue, again, to *spice it up*. (can you tell it's almost 11 pm as i am writing this) 14 - refining ミ☆ so there are a few big changes here--after i'm done with most of my rendering (or when i get bored), i use liquefy or flip the canvas to make sure everything looks right + how i want it. i realized the hair was a little too big & the hands were a little wonky, so i did some liquefy and overpainting to fix specific features! this part takes a while for me to do, as i'm a perfectionist and am always changing EVERYTHING...so yeah. but don't take too long if your drawing is just going to end up in scratch quality tbh… 15 - background + some refining ミ☆ so now, i've added the background & just some (obsessive) finishing touches, like lighting & jewelry. as for lighting, i struggled a lot on it, but the main thing is that you *should* look up references and not just wing it, or it might look slightly off. & yeah! that's my full art process, pretty much! thanks for reading through this incoherent project haha, comment ":cupcake:" if you read it all or maybe just ask any questions about my art process lol. i need to let it out. it might be a long time before i post again, so i just want to say that i'm going to be doing artfight during the summer! my user is the same as here and i'll be doing attacks + revenges. i also posted some of my updated character refs, so check it out ! <3 [ anyways i'm just going to post this and edit in the morning. bc i'm too tired (go to bed early guys). ] that's all for now, see u in the next one :) LINKS: version 1 (2022): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/724953628/ version 2 (2023): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/805846108/ ──── ✩ ──── art ⋆ @gh0stwriter !! mediums used ⋆ adobe fresco + procreate music ⋆ hollow moon - the crane wives tongues & teeth - the crane wives some tags - #art #redraws #digital #oc #improvement
