After finding a suitable planet they discovered a weird goo, that for some reason, if it comes in contact with an object, that object freezes in time, and stays that way till the goo is removed. Whilst experimenting with it we found that shocking it causes it to expand and freeze everything around. During another test with a higher voltage, a storm caused a power surge releasing extreme amounts of energy. The goo than proceeded to freeze the whole planet except for everyone in a lab next to the other one, due to a lead layering for radiation tests. You, a scientist, was in the other lab when this occurred, and since being chosen from random, was sent to destroy all of the goo on the planet
