I just found a huge bird book with birds of Europe in it! I decided to do a bird challenge for this, since I was getting bored of doing just parrots (I'll finish the parrot one later). This is my first drawing of a swan on the laptop, btw! _____________________________ Name: Mute Swan Order: Anseriformes Family: Anatide Scientific name: Cygnus olor Length: 1.45-1.6 m Wingspan: 2-2.4 m Weight: 10-12 kg Status: Secure Where seen: Britain, Ireland, South Scandinavia, France and Germany Info: Feeding: Mute Swans graze freely on short grass or cereals, but they mostly feed in shallow water, up-ending to reach down for the shoots and roots of aquatic plants with their long necks. Display and voice: A Mute Swan uses a range of hisses, snorts, and strangled trumpetings. Displays include elegant posturing with entwined necks and an aggressive territorial display, with arched wings and an S-shaped neck, that often leads to violent battles with intruders. Breeding: Swan nests of huge piles of reeds and stems at the water's edge. The usual clutch is of 5-8 eggs. Migration: Most long-distant flights are connected with migrations to safe places to moult in the late summer.
