She was injected with bird genes, which caused her to grow wings. As the first of the many test subjects to survive this process, she was constantly experimented on until the fateful day the lab was hit by a power outage and she escaped. She can also communicate with birds to a certain degree, and uses her abilities to help mistreated animals.
