In this particular film, Godzilla was portrayed as a physical incarnation of nuclear trauma. Most Godzillas after it took a less than serious take on a similar idea, like Titanus Godzilla from the Monsterverse or the second Godzilla from Godzilla Raids Again. Its design was based on then modern depictions of dinosaurs like Rudolph Zallinger's T. rex and several pieces from Charles R. Knight. The actual suit made for the film took away a lot of its base dinosaurian traits and instead made it look more like a monster. It was given a more humanoid shape and was given a bumpy scar-like skin texture. This design was used as a reference for all other Godzillas to come. Its abilities were mostly melee based on its fangs, claws, and tail. It occasionally used a ray of radioactive fire to melt people and structures.
