Instructions

TITLE: Home Again (as of rn) (Opening: Soft, steady piano with light strings. [maybe idk, we can only play piano and Ukulele] Ctimene stands in her home, looking out at the horizon, waiting.) CTIMENE: (gentle, longing) (Verse) He will come walking through that door, Smiling like he always swore, "Not even the gods could keep me away." And I’ll laugh, call him a fool, Wrap myself up in his arms, Like I have a thousand times before today. (She glances at the docks, seeing a crowd gathering as news spreads that Odysseus has returned.) (Pre-Chorus Uno) They're singing of a king come home, A war at last left far behind, I close my eyes, I see him there, His hand in mine, it's time! (The music swells as she rushes toward the shore, searching for Eurylochus in the crowd.) (Chorus Uno) He's home! He's home! The war is done, the sea is still, And I have prayed, I have prayed, And now the gods have heard my will! He's home! He's home! No storm could ever break us two! Eury, I knew you'd see this through! (She pushes through the crowd, but then she sees Odysseus standing alone. No Eurylochus. Her voice shifts slightly, but shes still has a hint of hope.) (Verse) Maybe he’s waiting on the shore, Maybe he sails a slower course, Maybe he was sent ahead- Or maybe he’s just lost in the crowd instead… (Melody slows. Odysseus meets her eyes. He doesn’t need to say a word. Ctimene’s hope shatters.) (Pre-Chorus 2.0) No... oh gods, it can't be true, He swore that he would make it through! Tell me he’s safe, tell me he fought, Tell me he’s home, tell me he’s not… (The music pauses for a beat, everything silent except for her unsteady breathing. Then it shifts into something lower, mournful, as the weight of grief sets in.) (Chorus 2.0 :p) He's gone… he's gone… The waves have stolen him away… And I have prayed, I have prayed, But still, the gods won’t let him stay. He's gone… he's gone… And all I have are ghosts and waves… No storm was ever ours to brave… (Ctimene falls to her knees, clutching empty air) (Outro) He will come walking through that door, Not in this life, but someday more… And I will wait, I will wait, For love can never wash away.
