Following WW1, Trithersta was disarmed, monarch deposed, and robbed of dignity. The new government was weak, and the economy was atrocious. The Trithian energy crisis was also profound. Due to the loss of its oil colonies, the Trithian industrial machine was in decline, and the country was forced to buy oil from western states. Lucky for them, a prominent manufacturing magnate by the name of Matthias Munt struck a deal with the independent state of Askaria to sell them oil, in exchange to industrialize the country. The deal allowed him to corner the Trithian energy sector, but more importantly, fuel his political ambitions. The next year in 1932, Munt was elected president in a landslide. Once in office, Munt raised the military budget significantly, cut down on government waste, and expanded major infrastructure projects. He also consolidated political support through gradual democratic backsliding, until the country was a despotic regime. In 4 years, Trithersta had gone from an economically weak nation on the verge of total economic collapse, to a military superpower and economic powerhouse.
