This is a review and written record of my first playthrough of the Roblox game "Dandy's World". Hope you enjoy! My thoughts BEFORE I play the game: I'm sure you've seen alot of Dandy's World content here on Scratch. Personally? Most of it is.. pretty mid. It's more or less in the same boat as something like Sprunki; in which its mostly just brainrot, crappy fan characters, yada-yada, you get the jist. Now, there are some okay and even good or great things that have come out of this fandom, sure, but most of it? It's just mid at best. Most (actually all) of my nitpicks are about the game's community, but lets actually get into the game, shall we? My Experience: After loading in, I am immediately a little confused, but I gain my bearings and find my way towards the actual game lobbies. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to immediately jump in or not, so I choose to explore a bit. From what I've seen, the game looks pretty alright! The UI is basically your average Roblox simulator UI, with your codes and stuff like that, but its not too overwhelming. I decide to hit up my boy Dandy, not that I can buy anything, I just wanna see what his store is like and what he has to offer, which really isn't all that much it seems, so I decided to get going. From what I've seen, its difficult to get a really good lobby without friends, but I was able to get a smaller but still alright one.. but they all left me.. or I think thats what happened? Idk I might be trippin' but all I know is that I was alone. Once the round actually started, I wasn't actually sure how the gameplay was gonna be like, but it actually seems quite similar to something like Pillar Chase 2. I did almost immediately die though, so I wasn't able to really grasp all of the gameplay. Back off to the lobby I go! Like I said, its difficult to get a good lobby without having a bunch of friends, or a group. Because of this, and since I didn't wanna steal anything from another group, I was kinda forced between a rock and a hard place for a bit, because there were no really good lobbies. I should probably mention I'm playing it on my phone, so thats probably gonna affect my review, even if its in a minor capacity. I saw a lot of people doing the good ol' "ABC!11!!1" thing to get some players in their lobby, but luckily one of my friends joined so I got the opportunity to play it with him.. until.. IT HAPPENED. I was typing to him and then the game actually started, but I was stuck in this limbo of typing but not actually typing, and the keyboard BLOCKED THE BUTTON TO LEAVE. I had to forcefully HARD SHUTDOWN my phone by talking to SIRI in order for it to be fixed, because apparently Siri can't manually close an app for you. Thanks Apple. After that DISASTER, I was able to get back into the game, but I wasn't sure where my friend was, so I waited a bit and also invited him back, and he did rejoin! Me and my friend started a new round.. and I immediately died.. again.. ..great.. I realized the more proper term for a lobby is a run because this game is more of a rougelike. Anyway, my friend got more people for me so shoutout to him. :D As we started a new round, I began to get a hang of things in a sense.. but immediately died again.. so this is Dandy's World, eh? Anyway my friend had to explain the game mechanics in sigma ohio language so thats evidence humanity has devolved.. (or potentially evolved..?) Kinda forgot to write for a bit, but nothing really of importance happened for a while, just me and my friend chatting (mostly about game mechanics) while watching another person solo as Boxton. Me and my friend finally decided to do a new run, after some dilly-dally, together.. and I once again died almost immediately, but I did get further in! Also, I respect the devs for not adding revives when they could easily milk the hell out of that, kudos to you guys. I do wish they had better visual indicators for when you're taking damage and stuff. The game is also missing a lot of ambiance. It would be nice if it had something like chase themes or other music or SFX, but granted they are trying to appeal to kids.. Me and my friend kinda just yapped for a bit tbh, but it did give me some ideas for some new projects down the line, so.. stay tuned.. ;) Anyway, we eventually joined another game with another person. I actually got to finish one of the machines for once! ..but I died shortly afterward.. [ vvv ]
[ Cont. ] My Thoughts AFTER I play the game: It's actually.. pretty.. good? Like, obviously I don't like the mainstream fanbase all that much, and the game itself could be more suited to my liking, but its still pretty good. It has an alright gameplay loop and is of good quality, and honestly, if anyone is looking for a more tame version of games like Pillar Chase 2, then I'd recommend Dandy's World! That doesn't necessarily change my nitpicks made at the beginning of this review though, even though those are mostly relegated to the community. So, honestly, yeah, I actually liked Dandy's World! So, yeah, that was my experience with Dandy's World! Hope you guys enjoyed, and shoutout to @WhatsaSmugswag for being the friend who helped me out during this endeavour! They aren't necessarily new but also kind of are, so please go check them out and support them. Anywhoo, ta-ta for now! :D
