In January of 2025, the town of Knights Landing awoke to DCRC SD40-2 8042's horn as it passed through the town, with SD40T-2 8270 and SD40-2 7889. Behind them were five cars, four boxcars and a hopper. The boxcars had been picked up from Close lumber in Sutter while the Hopper was at Premium Rice Group in Robbins. The reason why DCRC had chosen to put three units on this train is because 8270 was being transferred to the Walnut Grove Branch and was being moved. This train's final destination was Davis, where the cars and 8270 would be set on the UP. 8042 and 7889 were purchased in the early 2010s from HLCX and refurbished by NRE before arriving on the railroad. They still wear their previous railroad's paint. 8270 was purchased from Schnitzer steel in 2008 as the SP 8270. It was rebuilt in house by DCRC with used parts purchased from various sources. It was painted in a light grey scheme with black numbers and reporting marks, earning it the nickname "The Ghost".
