In the small town of Knights Landing on a calm spring day in 2023, DCRC SW1001 #1000 breaks the silence, dragging a single hopper car through the town to Sutter Basin Co-Op on the other side of the Sacramento river. 1000 will then pickup two loaded hoppers and send them to Live Oak for them to be set on the UP. This unusually short train is attributed to slow business on Sutter Basin's part. The hopper was picked up by the DCRC in CFNR's Woodland yard, where DCRC has trackage rights. The trackage in Knights landing is in decent shape but trains are restricted to going at 10 mph due to the close proximity to houses. All crossings other than Ensley Road in Knights Landing are passive. DCRC 1000 has been on the DCRC since day one, being one of 5 SW1001s bought new in 1970. It's unique for that it has SP style numberboards and a gyralight, all of the DCRC SW1001s have never gotten ditchlights.
