I woke up to my mom’s pecking, tapping, and pushing on my forehead. My eyes flickered awake, as I pushed myself onto my feet. My legs ached, my head felt like it was bleeding, and I had massive bags under my eyes. I had just flown from New York City all the way to Japan. Was this Jet Lag? Most likely. I got up from the seat, and pulled my bag off the seat. I walked beside my mom, who wore a sharp suit, and I soon exited the plane. Looking around, I instantly saw a limo in front of me. Multiple FBI agents instantly surrounded me, and I raised my eyebrow confusingly. Looking beside me, I recognized my favorite bodyguard, Travis Montgomery, who winked at me as we locked eyes. I smiled brightly, putting up a thumbs-up, but was quickly dragged away by my mom. She tugged on my sleeve, and pulled me with a violent force. I watched as she placed me in the limo, and she quickly slid in the seat next to me. We sat there in silence for a bit, until after a few minutes, she interrupted the silence. “Listen,” she began, her tone soft and sweet. “Honey, I’m sorry you had to leave all your friends. But as the Ambassador for International Affairs, we had to move. I’m sorry sweetie, but maybe you’ll find new friends in your new school.” I looked up at her, and I took a couple of moments to keep silent. I knew if I spoke now, my voice would’ve been violent, so once I was calm; I spoke. “Mom,” I began. “Listen, listen. I honestly think we were fine, it was one death threat, we would’ve been fine. I don’t know why we came to Japan of all places…all that’s here is anime ... .so annoying.” I would’ve complained more, but my mom put a finger over my lips. “Honey, I didn’t tell you this,” she began. “But we got a thermonuclear bomb in the mail, and that’s why we moved…” My teeth clenched, and the words in my throat were instantly caught. My sweat glands broke, and water dripped down my face. My cheeks reddened, and I personally just couldn’t believe what I was hearing? Bomb? Threat? THERMONUCLEAR BOMB? I didn’t know what it was, but I knew it sounded bad. That was the end of the conversation. I could tell from the look on her face, her straight lips, and her narrowing eyes. It was obvious she didn’t want to discuss this further. So, that’s when I decided to get in some beauty sleep before I had to wake up to moving packages. Now, that was going to be a drag. It only took a couple of hours maybe, and I woke up to the limo coming to a harsh stop. It was dark outside, and I could tell it was sometime after Midnight. The street lights were on, and the streets were eerily empty. People were probably asleep, or they were out at parties, restaurants, and hot springs. I did know that hot springs were pretty popular for teens in Japan, but I myself had never gone to visit one. Hopefully, with the new school I’m enrolling into, I can visit one. That was one of the only things that I was hoping for on this new trip. This new move had multiple negatives and only a few positives. First of all, I don’t like Japanese food. I’d personally rather have American food. I don’t like having those rice balls and bento. How do you even eat them? How do you hold chopsticks? Another reason why I never wanted to come to Japan was because of the language. I can’t speak Japanese, and I don’t think I could learn it in a couple of days. I’ve tried to learn it before, but it’s way too hard. Now, for fact, I know that I’m getting a translator. Hopefully, I don’t make so much noise and get a lot of attention. That’s what I’m really hoping for. During the car ride, I did some research about the chemical bomb that got put in our mail. From my research, and my own knowledge, it’s apparently a Russian bomb called Lewisite. On the web, it details how the bomb causes an immediate swelling, blisters, and rashes on the skin. Whoever sent this chemical bomb obviously wanted us dead without anyone finding out, and I personally think it’d take a couple of days before anyone found our bodies. The limo door finally opened, and I looked up to see Travis’s tired eyes glaring down at me. He yawned slightly, before he finally addressed me. “Jace,” he muttered. “You’re supposed to be helping Ambassador Brown….- your mom….” He wrapped his bulky hands around my arm muscles, and pulled me out of the car. He picked up a box from the ground, and placed it firmly into my weak arms. Honestly, I didn’t want to be moving boxes so late at night.
It was just too late, and I was way too tired for this. I wouldn’t have even tried moving it, but I felt a firm hand grip my shoulder. Turning around, my arms instantly started to shake, and shutter. My eyes widened, and sweat dripped off his cheeks. My lips curled into a long frown, and I instantly took off running from the man. Man, that FBI agent was way too scary for me. Nicholas Miller was Travis’s commanding officer, and he was way too scary for me. I always hated when he had to babysit me. He was so strict, and mean. He always wanted me to do my homework first, and always made an FBI agent follow me when I went out with friends. So annoying! After moving all those boxes inside the high-rise apartment complex, (I didn’t even understand its name) I dropped firmly onto the couch. It was a soft, warm black leather couch with boxes covering the seats. I was so happy to be somewhere I could relax. I let my joints relax, so I leaned backwards against the leather. As I rested, my eyes perked up to the conversation between Travis, Nicholas, and my mom. I couldn’t tell who was talking (since Travis’s and Nicholas voice sound so alike), and my mom’s voice was slightly muffled. “Madame Ambassador,” “I believe you don’t understand, we must have an FBI escort with you and your son at all times. “My son shouldn’t be treated like a VIP, he needs to live a normal teenage life, not be treated like a person always needing babysitters.” “I solemnly agree with you, Ma’am.” “Travis, travis. Madame, madame. You both don’t understand. It’s a chemical bomb. This isn’t a threat to be taken lightly.” “Sir, in all due respect, I don’t think that whoever did knows that we moved the family. Even if they did, they wouldn’t guess Japan.” “Travis, your a honest to god fool. This is no threat to be taken lightly, like I said…” “Sir, in respect, you never really liked the kid, did you?” “Like him? Who says I have to like that brat? He isn’t deserving to be the Ambassador’s so-” “That’s MY son you’re talking about.” “Madame Ambassado-” “Go to your room. Now. I just want to be with my family in peace right now.” “Yes, my apologies, Ambassador.” I slightly opened my eyes, as I listened to the door opening, then the door closing tightly. I watched as my mom walked over to me, picking me up, and placing me on a soft cotton bed. I stared into her face, and I could tell she was mad. Her cheeks were red, her lips curled into a straight line, and her eyes curling outwards. I didn’t want to worry her, so I decided to quickly fall asleep.
