Art Class It was a Wednesday, and if I would have known that I would be running from blood thirsty vampires, then I wouldn‘t have gotten on the plane. My name is Iris Summers. I used to live in California, but ever since my dad went off to travel in Texas, I’ve been living here with my mom in Little Lake. It’s a small, quiet town, and I liked it very much. That was until I learned the Morganshire's secret. It all started at school. It was the first day of school, and I was a little worried about meeting new people, and having to talk to other people. I was deep in my thoughts, when a kid walked up to me, and giggled. “Oh my! I LOVE your shirt! Where did you get it?! I HAVE to know!” A shorter girl with a ponytail had walked up to me, and talked as though we were already best friends. She had a wide smile on her face, and looked like she didn’t have a care in the world. “Um… I got it from a store in California. If you don’t mind me asking, what's your name?” I asked the happy girl that would not stop smiling. “My name’s Milly!” She said happily. “I know this place pretty well, and I think that we can be good friends,” she smiled, and I couldn't help but smile back. She was so happy, and didn’t care about what anyone else thought about her. “Will you sit with me at lunch? I have a table all to myself! Come on! Please? I just met my new best friend! You have to come sit with me!” I smiled a small smile. Of course I would sit with her. I hadn’t even been in school for an hour, and already I had a best friend, and my own table at lunch. I nodded, and she started smiling at me. Taking a quick look at my schedule, she pointed over to the left. “Geometry is the first left on the door. You’ll go there after art,” She grinned. “I’m going to art too! Come on! It’s really fun. The teacher is really nice, and the painting supplies are amazing! You HAVE to come!” Milly slowly started dragging me to the door with paint stains all over it. When we got in the room, Milly pulled me over to a pair of canvases in the far corner. I gave her a quick nod of thanks, and then looked up at the teacher. Mr. Tosh had a sticky mess of black hair on the top of his head, and had a permanent grin on his face. His face was covered with chalk smudges, and his nose had too many colors to count in it. He looked happily down at the class. “Welcome future artists! Today we’re going to be painting a special plant that will make our hearts swell and spread like the roots!” He grinned, and I saw that he had perfect teeth, all shiny and white despite his colorful face. “We also have a new member in this class. Please welcome Iris. She came here from California, and we will happily welcome her. Because it’s your first day, I’m going to ask you a question. What plant are you going to paint today?” I looked down, and I could feel the eyes of everyone in the room, except Milly (who was busy painting, and couldn’t notice a bear if it was standing in front of her) and their eyes bored into the back of my head. I thought about all the times me and my dad went camping and all the plants we would see. He would tell me that even though a cactus was prickly, it could be beautiful. “A cactus,” I said, my voice shaking ever so slightly. “Why is that?” Mr. Tosh asked. I hesitated. “It’s because my dad told me that even though they’re sharp and prickly, they can be beautiful. I like to think that’s how everyone is on the inside…” I looked up, and I met the eyes of a handsome blond kid sitting in the front. No one stood by him, but he had a smirk that I couldn’t keep my eyes off of. He had the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. They were a rich blue, and I had to blink to stop staring at him. I looked up after a few minutes, and the boy was looking at me again. He was wearing a blue shirt that matched his eyes, and slightly baggy pants. I couldn’t keep my eyes away from him for more than a minute at a time, but finally stopped looking as the bell rang, and I started heading towards Geometry.
