Chapter 5 Dovepaw's POV: ════════════════ ⋆★⋆ ════════════════ Dovepaw watched Amberpaw and Asher shared prey. He silently glared at Asher and he put a paw on Amberpaw. "Here Dovepaw, I caught some prey for us!" Leafpaw squeaked excitedly. Dovepaw rolled his eyes silently. Leafpaw was very clingy. For some unknown reason. Ever since they went on a mountain journey, Leafpaw was acting...strange. Asher said something in Amberpaw's ear that made her laugh. *That should be me!* Dovepaw thought angrily. He glared at the scrawny mouse Leafpaw had caught. He sighed. *I wish I could be Asher.* He thought silently. Leafpaw's POV: ════════════════ ⋆★⋆ ════════════════ Leafpaw sat in her nest, she started at the cave's roof. She pictured her and Dovepaw's kits. She smiled to herself. She turned around and glanced at Dovepaw, who was sleeping soundly in his nest. His tail tucked on his nose. Leafpaw smiled. *Tomorrow,* she thought, *Tomorrow I will ask him to be my mate.* Leafpaw's ear twitched as she heard a noise. She turned around to see Amberpaw and Asher sneak out of camp. Light on her paws, Leafpaw followed them. She emerged into the cold light. Stars twinkling above them, Amberpaw snuggled into Asher. Asher licked her ear. "Asher, as much as I want you to be my mate, I'm not sure I can." Amberpaw sighed. Asher glanced at her. "I know you do, and I want you to be my mate too! What if you stayed with me and let Leafpaw and Dovepaw go back to your clans?" Asher mewed. Amberpaw shook her head and sighed. Asher glanced at her. "I...liked Dovepaw a lot, but it seems as if he and Leafpaw are going to be mates...plus, I can't even have kits!" She meowed. Asher licked her fur. "I know, and I understand Amberpaw, but one night together won't hurt right?" Amberpaw looked at Asher. "No, it wouldn't..." Asher smiled. "Good, follow me!" He bounded up and ran, Amberpaw following close behind. *You better not steal my mate, Amberpaw.* Leafpaw growled. Amberpaw's POV ════════════════ ⋆★⋆ ════════════════ Amberpaw followed Asher as they ran through the small forest on Asher's mountain home. Her paws flying as she reached to catch up with her, she panted. *I wish me and Asher could be mates, but...we can't...* she thought to herself. "Here," Asher meowed. Amberpaw stopped. Her chest heaving. "Wow..." Amberpaw meowed. "Amberpaw, as much as I love you, I understand that we cannot be mates, but, just know deep down inside, I will always want to be your mate." Asher said. Amberpaw nodded. "Me as well Asher." Dovepaw's POV ════════════════ ⋆★⋆ ════════════════ Amberpaw, Dovepaw, and Leafpaw were on their way home. They had found a bundle of the flowers they were sent to get. Amberpaw had to say goodbye to Asher. It was sad, but Dovepaw was glad he didn't have competition anymore. "Let's set up camp here for tonight, shall we?" Leafpaw meowed. Amberpaw nodded, and started scraping moss together for the nest. "Me and Dovepaw will go hunting." Leafpaw meowed and trotted forward. Dovepaw followed, grumbling. After they were far away from Amberpaw, Leafpaw licked Dovepaw's cheek. "W-w-what was that for?" he stammered. Leafpaw smiled "Dovepaw, I've been thinking about...well us. And I really like you, so I think we should be mates!" Leafpaw exclaimed. Dovepaw blinked. *She has a point...its not like me and Amberpaw could be mates and the clan would accept it.* Dovepaw nodded. "Me too, Leafpaw! I like you too." He knew it was a lie, but he couldn't help it. If Amberpaw couldn't be his mate, at least he had Leafpaw. *One moon(month) later* Leafpaw's POV ════════════════ ⋆★⋆ ════════════════ "Dovepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and defend your clan even if it costs your life?" Ravenstar meowed. Dovepaw nodded. "I do." he meowed. "Then by the powers of StarClan, you will be named Dovestorm. Leafpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and defend your clan even if it costs your life?" He turned to Leafpaw. Leafpaw nodded excitedly. "I do!" She meowed. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I name you Leafheart!" "Dovestorm! Leafheart!" her clanmates shouted. *Now me and Dovestorm can have kits!* she thought. Amberpaw had gone to the moonstone with her mentor to get her name as well, she was named Amberheart. Marshstorm, Dovepaw's brother, was now deputy. Ravenstar was on his last life, and Marshstorm was preparing to become leader. Leafheart watched as he congratulated his brother. *Soon well have kits, just me and Dovestorm.*
