Back when TVs were in black-and-white, Western shows were the most popular. That was, until the launch of Sputnik 1, where the Western genre would experience a sharp decline. This fact was referenced in Toy Story 2 with the cancellation of Woody's Roundup, a black-and-white puppet show starring Woody, Jessie, Bullseye, and Stinky Pete. The secret bosses in Deltarune are themed after discarded objects. Jevil being the joker card, and Spamton being spam mail. Western shows are considered a discarded genre. In the original Friend Inside Me video, Woody turns black-and-white once the song distorts, which could possibly be a reference to both Woody's Roundup and the time period in which Western shows were popular. The secret bosses also parallel Genocide bosses. Jevil is Sans, and Spamton is Mettaton NEO. A cowboy character could easily parallel Undyne the Undying, since Undyne is a police officer in the game, and sheriffs are often compared to police. If "Woody" parallels Undyne the Undying, then his fight will likely use the Green Soul mode, which would line up with the theory that Deltarune's SOUL order is Omega Flowey's but in reverse, starting with Justice and ending with Patience. Woody had a nightmare in Toy Story 2 where he was thrown in a trash can. In Toriel's home, there is a trash can that contains a bunch of flowers. In Undertale, Flowey always greeted the player by saying "howdy", which is a common cowboy phrase. In almost all of the Toy Story movies, Woody always feared being abandoned/discarded, just like the secret bosses. In that same nightmare, Woody fell through a bunch of Spade cards. The two most important characters in Chapter 1, Lancer and King, are living versions of Spade cards. By extent, the trash can that Woody fell into could also represent Spamton's dumpster. The entrance to Queen's Mansion was inspired by a ride called Toy Story Midway Mania. There is a picture of Toby Fox posing with cutouts of Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Friend Inside me isn't the only Toy Story-related edit Toby made. The secret bosses are themed after carnival rides. Jevil being a merry-go-round, and Spamton being a roller coaster. "Woody" could be based on either a shooting gallery or a mechanical bull. The hidden smiley face in the basement of Queen's Mansion, commonly assumed to be Mike, is internally named "IMAGE_FRIEND", which could easily be connected to Friend Inside Me. In the famous movie called Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, there is a character named Mike Teavee who is obsessed with TV, and guess what? He's dressed like a cowboy and always watches Western shows. One popular Chapter 3 theory is that Toriel will be an important character, and she'll be involved with that chapter's Weird Route, where she'll use her fire magic to burn enemies alive. If "Woody" is the secret boss, then it could serve as a throwback to Toy Story 3, where Woody and the others almost died from an incinerator. It could also serve as a reference to screen burn-in, like how Snowgrave was probably a reference to how when computer programs die, they freeze. I rest my case. Guys, the dog is the Knight from Deltarune. He will be the final boss in Chapter 7, and will reveal something we’ve wanted to see for many years: Papyrus’s special attack, which he stole from Undertale.
