Part 1: Before December 7 Why, hello everyone! Call me Diana. I’ve been on scratch for over 6 years as of December 19, 2024. But I only started sharing projects in July 2024, so that’s what I consider the true beginning of my Scratch journey. It’s been full of ups and downs, yet so far, I think it’s been pretty awesome! Over the course of 5 months, I made many friends and got to know so many different people. Some of them are @PeanutBug511, @googology522, @BuffPanda2013, @xXv-gamesXx, @kiku060315, and a lot more. Some of them, such as @LG0807 and @00miraculousfan, are no longer online at the time of writing this, but I still miss them, and I remember them fondly. Everything was great. I loved scratch and all the fun I had on it. But, after five months on the site came that changed everything. On December 1, 2024, I had shared that I was going to take a break, from Scratch starting on the 2nd and ending on the 7th. On the 4th, I had logged on for the night to check any message or studio invites I may have, and I saw messages that said things like, “Don’t come back on the 7th, hackers are coming then.” I thought, “That’s odd. I wonder what’s going on.” Then I received a warning from my friend @Helena748 that I needed to change my password, unshare all of my projects, and turn off all my comments. I quickly learned that (allegedly) a hacker group called “The Elites” was planning to hack Scratch on December 7, and that they were also planning to spam in people’s comments so many times that the servers would crash. Now, all this was alleged at the time, so I didn’t know if it was true or not. But if it was, then I wanted to be ready. I made all the preparations necessary so that I could be safe, but I was so scared for both me and my friends. I wondered if all of them would be safe. I wondered if they would ever be able to come back online again after December 7, or if their account and everything they had done would be gone. 3 days later, starting December 7, I would find out the truth.
