So, as of a few months ago, Splatoon 3’s final Splatfest, Grand Festival, ended, and the results were that Team Past won, Team Present got second, and Team Future got third. But it was shown that Team Present had a whopping 50% of the votes, with Team Past around 26% and Team Future at 14%. Now, you might ask why Team Present got that many votes. As a Team Past member, I’m here to talk about Team Present. As you probably know, an idol group represented each team with the Squid Sisters representing Team Past, Off The Hook on Team Present, and Deep Cut on Team Future. Realistically, there was much more of a reason to vote Team Past or Future than Present. Past or Future would bring a lot of new stuff to splatoon 4, whether it’s set in the past or the future, while Present would bring almost no change at all. So why did Team Present get all those votes? It’s simple. Because the most popular idol group among splatoon players, Off The Hook, represented it. Everyone I knew who was on Team Present said “i’M tEaM oFf ThE hOoK!” or when I asked them why they chose it, they just said “PeArLiNa”. I’m sorry to offend Team Present right now, but just because your favorite idol or idol group is on a team is NOT a reason to choose it. Most people on Team Present weren’t thinking about the actual theme, they just hivemindedly chose a team because “oOo OfF tHe HoOk”. Now, here’s the part where I pause so I don’t look like an idiot. This is not a blanket statement about Team Present. Of course, not all the people on Team Present were just choosing it for OTH, and some were choosing it for the actual theme, which I respect. I’m not saying Team Present was a bad team, I’m saying some people chose it for the wrong reason. Lots of Team Present members were treating Grand Fest like it was Squid Sisters vs OTH vs Deep Cut. But it was Past vs Present vs Future. Also, Team Past and Future were actually thinking clearly, not out of blind impossible hope that their favorite idols would make a comeback as the news hosts in the next game. Well, team present was absolutely drowning in mirror matches so I guess that’s karma lol. And Team Past still won, so I can’t wait for what splatoon 4 brings!
