The Montgomery Mall, once located in Montgomery, Alabama, was opened in 1970 with JcPenney and Montgomery Fair as its anchor tenants. An expansion of the mall added a new anchor, Parisian, in 1988. Ten years later, a Dillard's was added and the mall was bought by Glimcher Realty Trust, which after that, the mall's popularity had declined significantly. Both JcPenney and Dillard's closed in 2005. Glimcher tried selling the mall in 2007, but it closed a year later in 2008. The empty mall was bought in May 2011 by Keith Corporation. A redevelopment plan was begun in February 2013 but had never actually happened. Since then, the mall is still sitting today, abandoned for over 16 years. This mall closed about a month before Rolling Acres Mall ( https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1018570162/ ) and it had been demolished in 2019. Seeing pictures of Rolling Acres in such decline at just being closed for 11 years really shows the emptiness and abandonment of Montgomery Mall. No plans have been done to demolish the mall anytime so who knows? Maybe this mall will be the next Dixie Square. ( https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1018592356/ )
