--------------------------------- 1 -------------------------------------- Echo started forlornly out her bedroom window. Rain pelted against the glass. She wanted to cry. She missed everything. She had lived in this tiny town her whole life. It was all she knew. Yet every minute she was here, she wanted to escape. To run, far, far away from this place. From her sad tired mother. Her mother who spent her days in a cramped office that smelled of stale coffee, and her nights drinking. Her mother who slept 'till noon. Echo rarely saw her mother anymore, her mother with matted blonde hair, and dark bags under her dull eyes. Echo moved almost automatically, each day was the same. Get up. Brush teeth. Go to school. Go home. It wasn't always like this. Her mother was a shell of who she once was. They both were. Since her dad died, all the joy was sucked out of the world. Leaving everything a dull gray, the dreary weather a perfect compliment to Echo's constant sadness.
