Her village was situated in the outskirts of a wood that stretched for miles in each direction, not a single animal inhabiting it to the knowledge of everyone outside,e save for a few insects that wandered in and became… changed. For this reason, no one entered. Not that it was a rule, but because it was evident that no one should enter, when anyone who did had never escaped. They lived in relative harmony with the more normal forest to the west, mainly ignoring the dangers inside. Except of course, for Phanta. She was fascinated by it from a young age, and as soon as she learned to be inconspicuous enough, she snuck out at night, into the forest, to discover what lurked within the depths. And what she found, straying further and further in with each visit, was wonderful. The forest was alive. A deep, beautiful life that almost seemed to materialise itself into a creature. Not one with a walking a shape or form, but one that reached into the world with strange ghost-like roots, and spoke without words, and felt the tremors in the deepest parts of the crust of the earth. Insects spoke of as horrors were glowing golden butterflies, and fireflies that moved through the air like dust in water. She was soon coming out every night, speaking to the forest, and though it did not use words, it spoke back to her. One night though, her parents awoke to find her gone, paw prints leading to the woods, where they raced in to find her sitting, watching, speaking with the forest. They ran to her in a panic, trying to drag her away, attacking the forest as best they could. But the forest wanted to protect her; it saw her parents as trying to do her harm, and lashed out as her father dove towards its tentacles, trying to destroy it. Phanta dove in front of her parents, and was struck in the head. To save her, the forest flooded her body with its life force, and while it ensured her survival, her body was altered forever, dripping with the lifeblood of the woods. She stepped back in horror, before realising it had saved her, and turned to her parents. They took one look at her. One, horrified, terrified look. And ran. So Phanta was left alone to walk the woods, searching for nothing, speaking with the forest: the only one left to her. She became part of the woods, never changing, never dying, the sole fully sentient inhabitant and with time, guardian of the woods. Time taken: I started this a few days after the dta was posted, planned out a whole different amv, then forgot and procrastinated. Then I binged doing this the entirety of yesterday and today for 8 hours each day instead of doing my homework.
