MV Ross Revenge was built in 1960 as the Icelandic trawler Freyr, but was sold to the Ross fishing fleet in 1963, renamed Ross Revenge. In 1983, the radio station Radio Caroline purchased it, and began using it for pirate radio broadcasts. From then until 1990, it carried out this purpose, even being the subject of an armed raid in 1989. It ran aground in 1991, but was restored in and after 2004. It is still (legally) operational. In 2017, it was added onto the UK's National Register of Historic Vessels.
