Instructions

Chapter 3 Night Watch Fawkes flicked his tail, gazing down at the ground from his perch on the guard post. He had been assigned guard duty for the second time that day. A few hours earlier, Anarchy had barged into the den and taken Cypress’s chick from him. He had been staying with the chick, so no one accidentally ate it or anything. Anarchy had instructed him to sit on guard duty and yelled at him for not being outwardly hostile to intruders. Fawkes sighed and curled his tail around himself. The cold night air chilled him to the bone. His short, thick pelt didn’t do much against the cold - it was more suited for swimming. Fawkes was a former water element. According to his father, all creatures born to an element had powers based on the corresponding element. Hybrids rarely had powers, and sometimes, creatures were born without powers. Fawkes was a former water element, having come to Chaos to escape the weight of his power. The Water territory was vastly swamped, and his power was to be able to watch what someone was doing through the water. This had placed him in the position of head spy and put a lot of responsibility on him. Almost every day, someone came to him, asking him to see what someone was doing. With the help of his good friend and traveling merchant, Sand Dollar, Fawkes had faked his death to run off to the Chaos group. Anarchy had let him in only after making him give up information about the Water territory. The only water in the desert was moving, which blocked his power completely. It was freeing. Fawkes raised his snout to gaze up at the moon. It was so late, and he was so tired. Maybe Anarchy wouldn’t mind if he took a little nap… Flap. Flap. Flap. Thump. The sound of a landing on rock jolted him awake. He looked behind him to see Crescent Moon standing there. “I’ll be taking over for now.” She commanded, waving him off. She was probably twice his height, with blue and brown fur. “Yes, ma’am.” Fawkes bowed. He was both grateful for the break and confused about why Crescent would want to be on guard duty. Fawkes spread his wings and dove down off the rock formation, landing somewhat gracefully onto the sand below. Everything looked gray, and his night vision wasn’t the best, so he almost tripped over a small, flowery cactus. Taking a needle out of his paw, he frowned and went back to the cave to sleep.
