[text version] Lobby: About Me/Intro Hi, I’m Allen! Nice to meet you! We’re going on a tour of the JWC tower, which is where I’m applying! Enjoy the tour! A little bit about me: I’m Allen, a 17 year old high school senior. Some of my hobbies include writing (obviously), sketching, 3D modeling, and playing the guitar. I’m a proud Christian, and I’ve been homeschooled all my life. I’ve been on Scratch for four or five years now, and I look forward to adding this JWC session to a list of great Scratch experiences! Basement: Previous Experience Allen’s Resume Dear JWC admins: I would like to apply for the position of cabin leader/co-leader. I have had a bit of experience in this field: I co-led the Dystopian cabin of SWC this March with @Bookdragon, @Wraith, and @ophellio. As far as leadership outside of Scratch goes, I'm also part of my youth group's leadership group. This will be my second session of JWC, and my fourth overall writing camp session. As the oldest of seven, I consider myself pretty good at deescalating situations. If anything happens involving other scratchers that I can’t handle, I’ll make sure to let the hosts know so they can deal with it. Allen (@-alternity) 10.27.24 L. 2, Office: Time Management + Checklist (office monitor) C://users/alter/Documents/Time_Management As far as time management goes, I'm pretty good with getting what needs to be done done on time. I can usually dedicate at least half an hour every morning and night (except for on Sundays) to Scratch. There shouldn't be any big events going on during January; however during the planning period (December) obviously I will have to work around Christmas events. Checklist. Answer y/n to each: I will be active at least 5 times a week: y I will release a promo project on my profile: y I will add words and points in a timely manner: y I will notify the hosts of any suspicious wcs: y Business Card: Fast Facts About Me “Allen” @alternity HS Senior, 17 Eastern Time Zone L 43, Boss’s Office: Leadership and Cabin Info Letter 1, Postcards of Fav Genres Adventure Detective Engineer Letter 1: Quotes from Favorite Genres - Mystery: “He burst into one of his rare fits of laughter as he turned away from the picture. I have not heard him laugh often, and it has always boded ill to somebody.” ― Arthur Conan Doyle, The Hound of the Baskervilles (Mystery) - Real-fi: “Is it God? Did God set up the dominoes and wait for some human to flick the first one? Or is it the opposite way around? Did humans set them up so God could do the flicking?” ― Allan Wolf, Who Killed Christopher Goodman? (Real-fi, Mystery) - Hi-fi: “Good luck comes at a price. Bad luck is free.” ― Ruta Sepetys, I Must Betray You (Hi-fi) Letter 2: Leader Expectations/Reasons Dear JWC hosts, Every member has something to contribute to their team, but there are a few things I look for in a leader specifically. Every good leader I’ve known is honest, kind, and hardworking. Honesty, perhaps the most important to me, is knowing when and how to admit your faults, to give someone else credit, and to give a good, humble record of your work. Kindness is another key attribute of an effective leader. The ability to empathize with and uplift the people around you not only makes the work environment more pleasant, but encourages everyone to be as efficient as possible. Kindness also is humble, listening to the team and knowing when to cut someone slack. Finally, a good leader is a hard worker. They are able to set an example, pushing the team to do their best at every task. They are diligent, and though they can’t do everything themselves they prove to the team that they will never ask more than they are willing to put in themselves. I hope to embody these three things as the leader of one of JWC’s amazing cabins. I would love to be a leader to be able to help younger writers grow in the art of composition, whether it be in high fantasy or a research paper. I honestly love the competition, and being leader is just one way to do my part in making the JWC experience as fun as possible for the rest of the campers. L 44, the Observatory: Camper Experience I really love JWC, and I truly hope that I can give my campers the best possible time in my cabin. My cabin will be fun-filled, fast-paced, and competitive, and by the end of the session, every camper will have memories to last for years.
