She was the deputy to Thornstar, a cruel and bloodthirsty tyrant who started killing off cats of all ages(Including kits) that were deemed "useless". Cranepelt knew she had to do something, so she took a group of her closest friends, as well as a cat who was supposed to be executed the next morning, off on a quest. The ragtag group of cats found a nice secluded part of the forest to call their own. They called themselves, RosyClan. After Cranepelt's brother, Rosyleaf who risked his life to save them.
