This chapter is from Sophie's perspective. Sophie and Fitz break telepathy laws and discover Percy's identity. Clean version of a FanFic I'm writing.
-Chapter Two- --The Boy With The Sword-- Sophie stared at the strange boy with the sea-green eyes. “The Enlightened Language. You know, the language we’re all speaking right now?” She turned to Keefe. “Maybe they’re like me.” He laughed. “I think one Mysterious Miss F is more than we can handle.” Tam stared down the newcomers. Sophie caught his shadow creeping along towards the strangers. 'What are you going to do to them?' She transmitted. He rolled his eyes. 'Nothing violent, don’t worry. I’m just reading their Shadowvapor.' Tam’s shadow had reached that of the boy in front. 'Oh,' Sophie thought, 'that’s actually a good call. I can’t read their minds, so it’s useful to have SOME input.' Tam paused, concentrating, then shook his head. 'It doesn’t make any sense. He’s almost completely good - maybe two percent evil. But he’s human, you can’t read his mind, he speaks the Enlightened Language, and he’s in the Lost Cities.' 'Hey, no mental conversations without me,' Fitz butted in. Sophie sighed. 'Fine. I’m bringing everyone else in, too.' 'WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING?' Marella demanded once Sophie had let the others into their telepathic meeting. 'Who are these idiots? They have to be Neverseen, right? And they used eye-changing elixirs?' 'Their Shadowvapor’s clean,' reported Tam again. 'Sophie, Fitz, can you try doing a Cognate thing and reading their minds?' 'For once, Bangs Boy has a good idea!' Offered Keefe. 'But seriously, how did we not think of that?' Sophie and Fitz shared a wary glance. They hadn’t told anybody about the lapse in their Cognate connection… but it was worth a shot, right? Fitz obviously thought so. 'I’m game. Soph?' Sophie took a breath and nodded once. 'On three. One, two…' 'THREE!' They shouted together, and thrust their mental energy forward. Sophie felt the same watery barrier of the first boy’s mind, holding them back, making it impossible to breathe once she and Fitz plunged in, but she grabbed her Cognate’s hand and switched on her Enhancing. Suddenly the water was gone. Sophie barely saw the boy’s sword droop, his other hand go to his temple. The memories distracted her. A girl standing in front of a fountain, the water reaching out and pulling her in. An old lady transforming into a hideous beast, her head being sliced off by a sword. A storm, a teenage boy with goat legs yelling that something was after him. A man with the head of a bull, his hand tightening around the throat of a woman who turned to golden light. A blonde girl with gray eyes leaning down and whispering, “You drool when you sleep.” A tall boy with one eye. A dying pine. The same pine, but this time healthy and strong with a golden fleece hanging from one of it’s branches and a punk-looking girl passed out by it’s roots. Two kids, a girl and a boy. The boy is clutching a pack of cards in his hand. The gray-eyed girl falling over a cliff with some monster. The boy’s face, furious, as a voice told him his sister was dead. There were a thousand more, but they all went by in a flash as Sophie let go of Fitz’s hand, opened her eyes, and met the sea-green eyes of the human boy… except he wasn’t human, and he was painfully familiar. “You’re Percy Jackson,” she blurted.
