Chapter 6 “Fox!” Rose cried. She had woken up to find herself alone. Smashed berries were strangely on the ground along with a long, thin leaf. Fox wouldn’t leave me, she tried to convince herself. He’s probably not far away, gathering berries. And he woke up before me probably, so he must’ve smashed the berries to tell me he was there not long ago. Fox is gone? Shadow asked, making Rose realize that she had been using the Shadowspin language. No, he’s probably out picking berries or something, Rose tried to convince herself. He’ll come back. She gasped as she came across a small piece of parchment. Shadow, I think I found something. Rose flipped the paper over. One side had Lake’s letter. The other had a note in shaky handwriting, which she cringed at. Rose recited the letter to Shadow, feeling empty inside. That…was…unexpected, Shadow whispered. But it’s probably for the best. With him gone you can focus on traveling to Dedra. Hopefully Zenra isn’t evil, too. Remember what Fox said. ‘Continue with your quest’. Now do that. Rose slung her satchel over her shoulder and stared at the glittering diamond inside. What had Laked meant when she said that the diamonds held ultimate power? Was she doing something wrong?
