Chapter 5 Sammie An old, angry growl in my throat started to arise as the eighth graders laughed at me and poked at me. They were calling me a furry, they were calling me a freak. I was tired of it. I wouldn’t take it anymore. “S-stop it! I am not a furry, and you know that! Get off my back!” I yelled at them, a small growl punctuating my sentence. One of them laughed. “Yeah, right. What’s with your tail? You know you’re a person and not a cat, right?” I was one snarky, dumb comment away from biting their heads off. “I know I’m a person, that’s why I have to improvise!” And we kept going that way, back and forth fighting. The football player’s voice was loud and his words were harsh. But I wouldn’t back down. Until, suddenly, I heard footsteps of a person coming from behind me. It startled me, so I looked behind me to see… “Lace?” It all happened so fast, and before I knew it, the jerk was pushing my sister to the ground.
