So as many of you know, my legs are paralyzed.I can’t walk or stand.I’ve spent my life in a wheelchair. Until now. I recently got braces and crutches! Leg braces, not the braces that go on teeth. I took my first steps just the other day (I was crazy wobbly and required someone to stand beside me to help me if I tripped or fell, but still!) You don’t know how good it felt.Walking and standing are a normal thing to other people, but for me it’s a gift.I cried when I walked for the first time! Don’t get me wrong, I still use my wheelchair and I’m not the best at walking/standing yet, but I finally am able to. I don’t necessarily need the crutches to walk, but they help stabilize me and I haven’t really tried moving around with just the braces that much yet.Maybe I just like the extra sense of stability that the crutches give me while walking. I’m self conscious about how I look, so I will not be sharing an actual picture of myself wearing the braces and crutches, but I got some images off of google that show similar braces and crutches as well as how they help you to move around.Click or space for next image. Big thanks to my dads, who surprised me with the braces and crutches the other day.Braces and crutches are expensive and a few years ago they asked if I would like some, but since I was fine in the wheelchair, I told them they didn’t need to waste money.Maybe it’s because I’m older now and my wheelchair has caused problems more recently (guys if you see someone at your school in a wheelchair, please do NOT shove a big stick in one of the wheels!It is not funny and it just annoys and upsets the person in the wheelchair.Trust me on that last part.Maybe I’ll tell that story sometime soon, idk.) But my parents got me them and I am so grateful.Thanks to my gf (@Cute_Halloween ) as well, for being patient with me through this and helping me learn how to stand and walk.I would have definitely face planted by now if you weren’t insistent on walking beside me to make sure I didn’t fall. (Good thing ur so stubborn lol or nobody would’ve caught me) Update: I’m getting much better at it!
