So people keep saying they really like my lighting style, but it’s SO simple. This is a lighting tut, not shading tut, so I’be already shaded this. I also tried a new lineart style! Note- this doesn’t work in programs without layers or layer modes such as scratch. You also need either a Gaussian blur tool or a smudge tool. Scroll down for steps. (Also feel free to steal this lighting style) (and sorry for all the watermarks I forgot to put in my actual watermark for most of it T-T) Step 1: I’ve done the drawing and shading, now I just need to light it. Light is coming from the top right corner. Step 2: I lay down yellow and purple on a layer clipped to the colouring layer/s. Step 3: I smudge (or sometimes blur if I feel lazy) the colours together and lower the opacity. It already looks noticeably better than step 1. Step 4: I duplicate the lighting layer twice, turning one duplicate to the add layer mode and one to the multiply layer mode. I then play with the opacity till it looks right. I do a few touch-ups, although I forgot a few and fixed them in between steps 4 and 5 (this one and the next one) Step 5: I make a new layer on top of everything else, airbrush yellow in one corner and dark purple in the other. I then blur. Keep in mind that the yellow overpowers the purple, so I put slightly less yellow than purple. Step 6: I lower the opacity of step 5 Step 7: I duplicate the lighting layer that isn’t clipped to anything twice, and turn one duplicate into an add layer and the other into a multiply layer. I play with the opacity till it looks right. Now you might think that this is done- and o could be, I quite often stop at this step. But we can do more. Make it fancier. The following step/s are optional, I just want to make things as fancy as possible :> Step 8: I just do a bunch of fancy lighting things using preset brushes from procreate- you can’t see the colours anymore, but it still looks good. Step 9: I reinforce all the shadows. I hope you liked this tut!
