Instructions

Note: I just wanted to make clear that I will NOT stop coding entirely and my Scratch projects (like my Among Us remake) will NOT be shut down. I’ve been using Scratch for over 5 years now and have dedicated countless hours to creating projects that push the boundaries of what’s possible with the platform. However, as time has passed, I’ve noticed my motivation to continue using Scratch has started to fade. Therefore, I’ve decided to become less active on Scratch. I’ll still maintain my Python library, scratchattach, and code games in other languages. I’ll also keep the backends for my server-based Scratch projects running. Occasionally, I might release smaller Scratch projects, though they might not meet the quality of my previous work. However, I will no longer be making complex games or updating existing ones on Scratch. I'll announce it on Scratch if I share things on other platforms (for now, please don't expect anything tho). I want to thank everyone who supported me over the years. The past 5+ years on Scratch have been an incredible journey. Some of my favorite projects I’ve worked on include Cloud Blocky, Othello Online, and my 3D platformer. My favorite projects all over this website are slither.io by @griffpatch, Scratch Tower by @MaxyBrian and The Orb by @CrystalKeeper7. There are so many Scratchers who inspired me, I'll name some of them here: @griffpatch, @MJM3, @--Explosion--, @Game-Cloud, @xamuil2, @Capt_Boanerges, @Bar_ben, @alphabetica, @noodlebot743, @ToadfanSchool Shoutouts to my first follower @use95 and some early supporters: @noodlebot743, @Life_Tutor, @dn_scrtch, @Benni2007, @Lucasliu9595, @Benelem12, @eunice0913, @design-ileb7 Also shoutouts to these people who regularly helped me make and beta-test my projects: @missyq, @XShrunk, @Benni2007, @design-ileb7, @Air_heads, @Senievol, @erichsu903, @scratch-filin, @Twin_KK (there may be people missing here) These are the main reasons I'm stepping back from Scratch: - I no longer have the same amount of free time as I did during the COVID-19 lockdowns, and creating high-quality Scratch projects is more time-consuming than it might appear. - At 18, I feel like I’m now older than the average Scratch user. All my old Scratch friends and most of the Scratchers who joined Scratch around the same time as me have abandoned this website long ago. Even the Scratchers who joined Scratch two or three years after I did are starting to leave already. I'm starting to feel old on this platform. - I’ve explored many aspects of Scratch, from 3D projects to cloud games. While I still have ideas, I feel like I’ve done most of what I set out to do on this platform. At this point, I think I can learn more new things when creating projects outside Scratch. - Making big and high-quality projects with clean UIs requires lots of boilerplate code. You have to place the same blocks over and over again, and I'm getting bored of that. - I’ve noticed some challenges with moderation on Scratch, particularly with how advanced projects using cloud variables are handled. While I understand the Scratch team is incredibly busy and doing their best, I’ve sometimes struggled with getting timely and consistent responses when issues arise. And on top of that, massreporting still exists. Nevertheless I appreciate the hard work that goes into maintaining such a large platform. - Also bugs are unfortunately not being fixed, for example the explore page has been buggy for 4 years now. Scratch labs has existed for 3 years now but there haven't been additions to it and none of the features have been introduced to official Scratch. - Some of my past projects, particularly my among us remake, can't be monetized due to copyright. Therefore I decided I will stop maintaining these. Thanks for understanding :)
