When the ping pong ball is dipped in the hot water, the air particles inside gain thermal energy, which is converted to kinetic energy. The particles move faster, and there is greater space between them. Thus, the air expands, and occupies more space, thus the ball is recovers its original shape to allow more space for the air inside.
