Askaria had used older M96 rifles until 1929 when the M29 was introduced. The M29 was more expensive but had more firepower, capacity, and it was easier to fix in a jam. The nation in had only used heavy machine guns prior to the M26 MG gun in 1927, which could use the same magazines as the M29 and vice versa. 3 million copies have been build with production stopping in 1936 due to the high cost. The M29 only has one factory currently making them and thus are no longer standard issue. The new standard issue is the old M95 lever action. Late war protocoll states the stocks of any new gun must be made of laminated beech and wood to keep up with the beech nut rations.
