Description

Name: Blue-rumped Parrot Scientific name: Psittinus cyanurus Conservation status: Near Threatened Info: The Blue-rumped Parrot is a parrot found in the very southern tip of Myanmar, peninsular Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, and nearby islands. It is a small parrot with a length of 18 cm and is primarily blue with bright red underwing coverts, a reddish shoulder patch, and yellowish margins on the wing coverts. The female has a grey-brown head. The male has a black mantle, a red upper mandible and a blue head and rump. There are two subspecies: -P. c. cyanurus -P. c. pontius The Blue-rumped Parrot is found in lowland forests, open woodland, orchards, plantations, mangroves, dense scrubs and coconut groves. It occurs in flocks of up to 20 birds. They feed on seeds, fruit, and blossoms.
