Instructions

Laini stared down the tunnel and sighed she had nowhere else to go but forward so despite not wanting to she had to take her chances. Laini could only see through shafts of light coming from cracks in the walls and ceiling of the tunnel. She knew she had to follow Matope's steps. Laini put her nose to the ground sniffing out Matope's scent. Even if the tunnel would split in multiple directions she knew the lioness was here before she was. Laini took a deep breath; she couldn't listen to the noises in the tunnel, just focus. She had to focus and then it would be safe. Laini carefully stepped following Matope's scent. No she couldn't walk Matope said she needed to be faster, she needed to think the way she did, she needed to run. Laini let the soft breeze in the tunnel push against her fur as she sprinted after Matope's scent, focusing as much as she could. A tear fell from her eyes, she was alone in here wasn't she? What if she couldn't make it out? Just as the thoughts started to creep her fur Laini gasped for air as she exited the tunnel. Only when she looked behind her did she realize that the tunnel was falling apart with dirt crumbling around the exit. Laini sighed in relief that the tunnel did not collapse on her. She looked around her realizing she was outside of the ravine finally Laini snarled, "Matope! I know you're here! You left me alone in that ravine!" The lioness leaped directly in front of Laini, "You got me, good job," Matope smirked, trotting off expecting Laini to follow like nothing just went on. She rolled her eyes following Matope who finally slowed down, "Where are we going now? Aren't we supposed to meet Storm?" "Didn't I tell you? I know exactly where Storm will be but you have to follow me and listen,". Laini groaned. She really did not like Matope's not clear way of communication. Matope always had to make her statements confusing. Laini took the chance to look around the dry grasses and sparse trees in the savannah around her. The brush on this side of the ravine was close to none with the flat terrain being more rocky matching the season. Matope stopped on a rocky cliff, "What do you see?" Laini tilted her head in confusion, "The savannah?" Matope shook her head, "Closer,". Laini nodded this time closely observing the environment around her eyes and ears. Laini noticed something which got her attention, a voice in the distance. "There's a voice," She looked at Matope. Matope nodded, "Lets go to it then," Matope took the lead again, leaping off the cliff almost immediately finding where the voice came from. Laini looked around confused until she listened even closer she realized around the area were holes under fallen logs and the roots of trees, aardvark dens. "An aardvark is trapped!" She yipped in realization looking at the mound of mud in front of her. Matope looked to Laini, "And how will you help it?" Laini looked around nervously and at the mud in front of her she looked at it before digging at the mud. Matope smiled, joining Laini at digging away at the mud. Laini heard a gasp of relief coming out of the mud as the face of the aardvark was revealed, "Oh great, Matope," He rolled his eyes a log from the collapsed tunnel entrance still laying on his back. Matope laughed, "Shimo! How in the world did this happen!?" She looked at Laini nodding to the log as if telling Laini to deal with the problem. Shimo snorted, "Where is Storm! I've been stuck like this forever!" "You don't need Storm! Laini get Mr. Grumps out of here," Laini attempted to lift the log before realizing she could barely move it, "Any help? At all?" She growled. "Do it yourself," Matope smirked, Laini pinned her ears back snarling. Laini looked at the log realizing how they did manage to uncover the mud. Laini clawed at the ground next to Shimo, soft earth easily came up. Laini smirked ha! She didn't need dumb Matope's help anyway! Laini clawed straight into the earth digging up the mud under and in front of the aardvark creating enough room under the log for him to get out. "There you go! Shimo was it?" Laini tilted her head. "This girl is much nicer than you, take a lesson from the cub!" Shimo grunted. Laini looked up at the familiar sounds of pawsteps a grin came upon her face, "Storm!"
