Instructions

--------WANG TILES-------- An original by ABC124816 How many wang tiles can you place? Can you beat my best score of 707 (with the original tile set)? 3000+ blocks! Turbowarp recommended: https://turbowarp.org/1049190021?hqpen (Do not use turbo mode as it doesn't help much and spoils the graphics) Double click on the middle left of the stage to toggle music on/off. Use the mouse wheel or touch scroll to scroll the palette or zoom in and out of the tiling grid in free play. Everything else has instructions in project. Description

NOTE: If you have any questions or requests, please read the FAQ section below before asking. I know the transition from free play to anything else is broken, but we are trying to fix it. I started working on this since the beginning of August! SAVE CODES GO HERE: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/topic/780360/ CREDITS ARE BELOW DESCRIPTION vvvvv ... Nobody apparently has made a project about Wang Tiles (or at least nobody who makes them in English), which is really surprising as they are so interesting, involve a lot of colors, and are even Turing-complete! (If you know what I mean.) So I thought I would make the very first one (in English). And since this is going to be the only project (for a while) that people are going to get under wang tiles, I'd better make it worth it. Thanks for 127 views! (Did you know 127 is a Mersenne prime?) Everything except music (i.e code and art) is by me. Except for the mobile-friendly symbol I took from a random project (It is a publicly available image, so no copyright needed. Also I forgot where I took it from.) Credit to griffpatch for giving an idea of how to make a smooth timer bar. Credit to squarepoint for the music 'Jazzy City' in the fast play screen (edited to make it a sound loop): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1041616504 Credit to scratch library for the other tracks (title screen and editor/free play tracks.) Thanks to @happywaffle0 for proposing! (and helping me debug this!) FAQS: -------- WHAT IS THIS? This is a wang tile simulator, which I have also made into a game. WHAT ARE WANG TILES? Wang tiles are basically square-shaped tiles that have four edges of different colors. You have to place them in a grid tessellation in such a way that if two tile edges touch, they both have the same color. The challenge is figuring out whether it is possible to tile the grid this way. CAN YOU ADD MORE COLORS? Please don't ask for more than 8 colors, as in theory you need only 6 colors to forcibly emulate bigger wang tiles with as many colors as you like. Also, even if I added more colors, it would be hard to tell the difference between them, so best I keep these 8. THIS IS SO COOL! Thanks a lot. A love and fav would be appreciated, or adding it to some of the studios you curate. CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW THE EDITOR WORKS? Go to Help. CAN YOU EXPLAIN WANG TILES IN MORE DETAIL? Go to Help.
