The poet, Su Shi. 《倦夜》 - A tiring night 倦枕厌长夜 - I am sleepless in the middle of night (the pillows couldn't attract me). 小窗终未明 - Though I have waited endlessly, yet I couldn't see the twilight of the dawn (through the window). 孤村一犬吠 - In this isolated village, we can hear the dogs barking. 残月几人行 - I wonder how many people are traveling in the moon light? 衰鬓久已白 - I am old and my hair is greyed (especially visible at the sideburn), 旅怀空自清 - Being a foreigner whom had travelled far and finally settled down here, the life is simple and nothing to look forward to. 荒园有络纬 - There are intertwining lanes at the distance, full of the chirping sound of crickets. 虚织竟何成 - (the crickets' chirping sound) as if the weavers busy working with the loom (merely creating sounds without the real actions of weaving). Sigh! How can one attains success when one makes (empty) noise without putting in effort nor taking action?
